You may have seen that our neighbour Thorndon has recently completed its Neighbourhood Plan?
You can see the plan at https://www.midsuffolk.gov.uk/assets/Neighbourhood-Planning/Thorndon-NP-Sub-Jun20.pdf
Occold Parish Council believes that this has rekindled interest in considering creating a Neighbourhood Plan for Occold. This can only be done with the support from residents.
Will you join a team of volunteers to shape the future of our village?
What is a Neighbourhood Plan?
It is a document designed to allow local people to play an active part in planning in their area. It can guide the development and conservation of the village.
Why does the parish council believe we need a plan?
Our village is coming under increasing pressure for new housing development. Preparing our own neighbourhood plan gives us the opportunity to shape the future by deciding how and where the village will grow and what is needed to support that growth.
How is a Neighbourhood Plan prepared?
A number of stages have to be completed. Some of these stages are governed by the regulations and there are no short cuts. The plan will be prepared by a committee advised by specialists when necessary.
How can I help?
We encourage YOU to get involved by joining the committee or helping at the various consultation stages. At the end of the day, it’s YOU that will decide whether the plan should be approved.
Everyone can get involved! Our community is full of people with useful skills and knowledge.
We need door knockers, tea makers, public speakers, map readers, people herders, conversation starters, data processors, researchers, campaigners, technical advisors, legal advisors, designers, secretaries, bloggers, webmasters and so much more.
How long will it take?
It can take around two years to complete a plan. The more people working on it, the better chance of finishing. You might choose to volunteer for six months then take a break. Nobody is expected to work full time for two years but ideally there’ll be a pool of people willing to work together and support each other.
